Shingle replacement – Owens Corning, Greenwich, CT

Today’s blog post takes us to Greenwich, Connecticut, in Fairfield County for a shingle replacement. One of my favorite things about Greenwich, Connecticut, is there are so many beautiful homes. We have done an exterior remodel of many homes here (from shingle replacement to siding), and it’s always fun to drive around and see our work. This family-friendly environment is home to cute small businesses, parks, and engaging activities for everyone.

Our client today was a repeat customer. About a year ago, this homeowner called us after his inspection discovered a leak in his roof. He wanted to get the leak problem under control before it started causing internal damage to the home.

Interestingly enough, he was already debating about doing an exterior remodel, that is, a full roof replacement. Since the leaking roof was an emergency and he hadn’t finalized plans for the full roof replacement, he opted to get the roof repaired and would have it replaced completely at a later date.

This happens pretty frequently, especially with so many homes going on and off the market these days. Homeowners start to schedule a plan for a new roof replacement when their old roof starts to fail out of nowhere, creating somewhat of an emergency situation. They haven’t figured out what they want their new roof to look like (shingle replacement color, for instance). So they have their old roof repaired to keep potential damage issues (like a new leak) at bay and buy them some breathing room until the timing’s better for a full roof replacement.

This is a great and affordable option if it’s not financially or realistic for you to have your whole roof replaced on short notice. You can always address the smaller, lightweight problems now while you save and plan for a full roof replacement later.

Our client was quite satisfied with the initial affordable, lightweight roof repair that we did. But after a year of harsh weather, the repaired area of the roof was durable and holding up, but the rest was not. It was time for the total roof replacement.

Again, this came as no shock to our client. He had already known his roof’s lifespan was nearing the end, and he was looking forward to a new roof replacement. Regardless of the age, it was just obvious that the roof needed to be replaced. For those of you reading at home, when in doubt, have it checked out. An inspection by a trusted roofing contractor can save you bigger headaches and heartaches.

This roof was unique in the sense that it was a smaller roof with some challenging corners. I like to point this out because there are so many different houses and roof types, and we have experience with all of them. Every job is custom-tailored to our client’s needs and wants. We always make sure to do a thorough inspection and address all questions and concerns so that the homeowner feels completely comfortable with the job before, after, and during.

Now back to this particular roof replacement job in Greenwich. Our client opted for an Owens Corning asphalt shingle roof.

An asphalt roof is one of the most common roof types in the world. It’s easy to see why clients consistently pick the asphalt roof over other options. It’s known for being affordable, durable, and lightweight, and it looks great.

An asphalt roof is quick and easy to install when compared to other roof materials like tiles or shake, and all things being equal, just as easy to remove. If the asphalt shingle replacement is properly installed, a roof could last 20-30 years.

After much deliberation, the Greenwich client decided to go with the same color roof as his old one. There was only one slight problem. This roof color was quite uncommon, and he had no idea how we would ever be able to match it.

Fortunately, we work with multiple suppliers (roof suppliers and suppliers of other building materials) and are able to access all of their resources. This makes complicated color matching no problem at all, which is why we were able to find the perfect shingle replacement. This turned out to be the Owens Corning asphalt shingle in Driftwood. As you can see from the pictures that accompany this post, the Driftwood color goes perfectly with the other wood-like accents of the house’s exterior.

Once we were able to solve the color matching issues (thanks to the Owens Corning Driftwood color), we got to work on scheduling. Our Greenwich client had a very busy schedule and upcoming events that we would need to work around. We assured him that this would be no problem. We always determine what team members will go to what project depending on the project and what skill set would be best for it.

After assembling our team, we got to work on the asphalt roof. We were able to finish the entire asphalt shingle roof in one day – from arrival to cleanup, everything. We are always conscious of our workspace and want to leave it as clean as it was before we arrived. Everything was easy to remove and replace, no small thing when you’re pulling up worn-out asphalt roof shingles that have seen their better days.

Thankfully there were no issues with the weather, either, and the schedule the client wanted allowed us to come a little early and stay a little late. That way we didn’t have to come back another day.

The vast majority of our projects go off perfectly, and this one in Fairfield County was no exception. Everything just worked out, including the weather, which can be a big issue in the roofing business. Fortunately, everything aligned, and this shingle replacement project turned out great (as did the Driftwood color match!).

If you have a roof project that needs to turn out great – like a shingle replacement, roof replacement, or a custom roof job – get with Gunner Roofing. And that also goes if you have an emergency roof situation or some other type of exterior remodel as well. Like we mentioned before, we’re a roofing contractor who has deep experience with all kinds of roof types, and we’re always ready to go the extra mile for customer satisfaction.
