Siding replacement – James Hardie, Riverside, CT

October 17, 2024 by

Welcome to one of the best places to live in Connecticut: Riverside. Not only does Riverside (a section of Greenwich in Fairfield County) offer a suburban feel, but also lots of retail space, restaurants, and parks. This gives residents everything they could need at a reasonable distance from home. It only makes sense that a great community has great houses.

For today’s post we will be talking about one of the important yet commonly overlooked parts of the exterior of a home – gutters. Simply put, gutters work by collecting the rainwater that falls on your roof and diverting it to the ground through downspouts.

Without gutters, water won’t drain properly and can pool on your roof. The pooled water can weaken your roof, causing damage to the exterior and interior of your home. Gutters can also help preserve the integrity of your siding, windows, and foundation by keeping water away.

Gutters and downspouts can weaken if they are not properly cared for. Debris, including leaves and branches, can cause gutters to become blocked and unable to drain like they should. If a buildup ends up causing a complete blockage, water can spill over the sides and damage the siding of your home, and even damage the foundation.

Foundation damage issues are something no homeowner wants to deal with. Heavy storms can also be a culprit of damage, and even total failure, which is why regular maintenance and periodical inspections are so important.

OK, back to Riverside. The homeowner contacted us in need of new siding and gutters. He noticed some common signs of gutter failure; some parts appeared to be loose, he had peeling paint, and puddles were forming on his lawn after storms.

At first, he decided to replace the gutters himself. After spending time online, he found some gutters he really liked and ordered them.

Upon further inspection of his house, though, he noticed that his siding was starting to show issues as well. At this point, he decided to ask a friend for a recommendation for a roof and siding specialist, and that’s how he found us. Referrals reflect reputation, and we’re grateful to be considered a siding specialist by previous customers. A good reputation is earned, not awarded.

Before we started anything, though, we went out to Riverside for an inspection and siding consultation. We wanted to get a good handle on the current siding and also wanted to ensure the gutters were a good fit for his house before committing to an install.

While we were there, we came up with a plan for lap siding that would go best with his home and the gutters. The homeowner couldn’t decide if he wanted to stick with his original color palette or go in a different direction with the new siding. We encouraged our client to take his time deciding.

After considering several samples, he ultimately decided to go with Night Gray siding by James Hardie, a popular option that paired nicely with the gutters. Night Gray is the perfect color to add depth and sophistication to your home.

James Hardie lap siding has a reputation for being the best in the business, for good reason. James Hardie siding features fiber cement construction that was a game-changer for siding material. It meant superior and low-maintenance durability against weather, pests, even fire.

By the way, lap siding refers to siding installation done in a horizontal fashion, thus overlapping planks. Lap siding can be made of wood or vinyl, but all things being equal, we recommend Hardie siding because of the superiority of the fiber cement over the long term.

Due to some issues with weather, this lap siding project took a little longer than it would have normally. One of our top goals for every home improvement project we take on is to have it done well and as quickly as possible. Sometimes unpredictable weather, like storms, can impact that. Luckily, it didn’t impact this siding installation by much.

As soon as the weather allowed, we were able to maximize our team and finish the siding installation and gutters quickly. Everything came out beautifully, and the homeowner was pleased.

It’s always amazing what a new siding replacement can do for a house. It can completely transform its look. The new siding material, gutters, and downspouts obviously look great, but they will also keep his home protected for years to come with minimal maintenance. Such an improvement!

Having work done on your house can be a hassle, and we want to minimize that as much as we can.

Something we would like to touch on is the importance of a clean exterior workspace. Here at Gunner, we want the job done right. And one of the elements of having a job done correctly is making sure that our team cleans up when the project is done (as well as keeping it as neat as possible while we are working). This goes for roofing material, siding material, old windows, anything.

We always make sure to get feedback from our clients, and this is something many of them commented on, that they appreciate the extra steps we take in ensuring that their home is free from debris when we are done.

For any questions about new siding, roofing, windows, or even gutters, please feel free to give us a call anytime!
